How to Clean Basement Rafters

Basement rafter cleaning is a little more complicated than cleaning other areas of the home. You can use a commercial cleaner to clean it or a homemade DIY solution

We love to use chemical-free homemade DIY solutions, so we will tell you how to clean basement rafters with home ingredients.

Equipment You Will Need

Bucket or bowl, warm water, white vinegar, baking soda, dish liquid, sponge, toothbrush, microfiber cloth, protective gears.

Cleaning Process

As the basement rafters are uncleaned for months, chances of mould and pests availability are there. So it’s better to wear protective gear before you start the cleaning process. Let’s start

Step One:

Take the bowl or bucket and fill it with warm water. Add two cups of white vinegar and a few drops of dish liquid.

White vinegar can kill bacteria and remove any dirt from the basement. And adding a few drops of dish liquid will increase its power.

Step Two:

Now, take a sponge and throw it in the water. Let it soak by the solution, squeeze the extra solution and use the sponge to mop the basement rafters. Leave it for fifteen to twenty minutes.

Step Three:

Repeat mopping a few times until dirt is thoroughly cleaned. If the sponge has become dirty, change it and take another one.

As the basement is full of dirt, it’s going to take at least four to five repeated mops. After mopping, if still some stubborn dirt or stain is there, a way is there to get rid of that.

Step Four:

Make a thick paste of baking soda and warm water, and a few drops of lemon juice. Pour the paste directly on the affected area and leave it for twelve to fifteen minutes.

Take the toothbrush and gently scrub the area with it. Keep scrubbing until you are done with the stain.

Step Five:

After cleaning is done, it’s time to wet mopping. To clean the residue, you have to mop once again with a clean water damped mop.

And then, use a microfiber cloth to soak the moisture and make the basement rafter fully cleaned.
